HOWARD WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS IN NAIL-BITING LOSS TO SAINT FRANCIS
LORRETTO, PA. (www.howard-bison.com) – The Howard University women's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season on Friday, Nov. 9 with a 69-61 loss to the Red Flash of Saint Francis (Pa.) University in Lorreto, Pa., in Degol Arena.
Lady Bison senior Saadia Doyle led in points and rebounds with 21 and seven, respectively, as senior Cheyenne Curly-Payne distributed seven assists.
Collectively, HU notched 33 rebounds and eight assists, while tallying 22 points off of turnovers and 28 points in the paint.
In the first half of action HU and SFU varied between seven ties and seven-point margin lead by the Red Flash. Howard ended the half at a three-point 33-30 deficit.
The mighty blue and white brought the deficit to one within the first three minutes of the second half.
At the 16:41 mark, SFU went on a 22-14 run to gain its largest lead of the contest by the 7:04 mark for a score of 63-52.
Howard then went on a 9-4 run to bring the margin to six, until Saint Francis seized its final two points from the free-throw line and sealed the 69-61 win.
HU returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 11 in State College, Pa., to take on the No. 8 Lady Lions of Penn State University in Bryce Jordan Center.
