WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – November 25 – For their second consecutive victory on the Burr Gymnasium hardwood, the Howard University women's basketball team defeated "The Mount" of Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday, Nov. 25 in Washington, D.C., 77-52.
To obtain a 25-point win, three Lady Bison seniors attained season-best outing. Kara Smith tallied a season-high 20 points, going 4-of-6 from three-point range, while Cheyenne Curley-Payne and Saadia Doyle shared assists accolades with a season-high 10 assists for Curley-Payne and a season-best five assists for Doyle.
Doyle also led in scoring with 26 points, steals with two and rebounds with eight, while Curley-Payne accompanied 11 points to her 10 assists for a double-double and red-shirt junior Jerelle Gorham tallied 10 points.
Collectively, the Lady Bison finished at 64 percent from the charity stripe, 49 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range.
Howard dominated the contest from the 15:57 mark of the first half, as snapped MSMU's one-point lead. From the 15:35 mark to the 9:00 mark, the HU defense held The Mount scoreless and paced to 15-0 run for a first-half 16-point lead.
Nonetheless, Mount St. Mary's revived its offense and hit a 14-5 fun in 5 minutes and 30-seconds of play, cutting the lead to seven by the 3:30 mark, 30-23.
Howard reestablished its double-figure lead with a 7-3 run to end the first-half with a score of 37-26.
The mighty Lady Bison retained its offensive supremacy in the second-half to cruise to a 25-point 77-52 victory.
Howard advances to 2-4 on the season, with a 2-0 record in Burr Gymnasium and a 0-4 record on the road.
HU concludes its three-game homestead with Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. on the Howard University campus (Burr Gymnasium) in Washington, D.C.
