NO. 24 OHIO STATE TOO MUCH FOR THE HOWARD LADY BISON

COLUMBUS, OHIO (www.howard-bison.com) – December 30 – In their second matchup with a nationally ranked opponent, the Howard University women's basketball team suffered a 67-50 loss to No. 24 Ohio State of the Big Ten Conference on Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Lady Bison senior Saadia Doyle tallied the only double-figure outing of the contest with 21 points, while seniors Kara Smith and Cheyenne Curley-Payne scored eight points apiece. Curley-Payne finished with six assists and Doyle gathered three steals. Freshman Victoria Gonzalez made her statistical debut with four points and five assists.
Collectively, HU shot 33 percent from the field (18-54), 25 percent from the three-point range (3-12) and 65 percent from the free-throw line (11-17).
The Ohio host quickly achieved a double-figure lead by the 11:58 mark. OSU maintained its 10-point plus lead throughout the first twenty minutes of action, and ended the half with a score of 33-21.
Howard returned to the court, and hit a 6-3 run bringing the margin to eight by the 15:28 mark.
The Buckeyes took a short 11-point margin lead, which Curley-Payne snapped with a behind the arc shot at the 14:12 mark.
Nonetheless, the HU offense lost its momentum and the Big Ten host reached as much as 19-point lead before securing a 67-50 win.
The mighty blue and white drops to 5-6 on the season.
Howard opens 2013 in Burr Gymnasium by hosting the Lady Owls of Temple University on Friday, Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Bison then hit the conference road for four-consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contests: Coppin State in Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m.), Hampton in Washington, D.C. (Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m.), Norfolk State* in Washington, D.C. (Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m.), North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. (Jan. 19 at 2:00 p.m.) and North Carolina Central in Durham, N.C. (Jan. 21 at 5:30).
