TWO DOUBLE FIGURE OUTINGS LEAD TO 56-45 HOWARD VICTORY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – January 14 – Two Howard University Lady Bison scored in double figures to lead HU to its eighth win of the season with a score of 56-45 against Norfolk State University on Monday, Jan. 14 in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
Along with the team's success, senior Saadia Doyle reached 2,000 point milestone with a layup at the 4:14 that put her at the 2,001 point mark. Doyle is the second Lady Bison to enter the 2,000-point and 1,000-rebound club.
In the win Doyle finished with 26 points, and senior Kara Smith scored 14 points. Doyle and freshmen Imani Bailey both pulled down seven rebounds apiece, Bailey's rebounding performance marks a season-best effort.
Statistically, HU shot 31 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the arc and 59 percent from the charity stripe.
The mighty blue and white opened with a 6-0 lead as Smith knocked down two consecutive three pointers.
HU varied between a six-point and a four-point lead until the 7:49 mark, when NSU went on a 8-0 run for 14-14 gridlock.
By the end of the half, NSU led 26-25 by outscoring the Lady Bison 12-11 over six minutes of play.
HU returned the Burr hardwood ready to reclaim the lead. At the 18:30 mark Doyle scored a three pointer to recover the lead.
On a final 17-2 run, Howard took its largest lead of the night at 15 for a score of 48-33.
NSU came within seven, but Howard maintained its offense and finished the night with a 56-45 win.
Howard advances to 8-7 overall, 5-1 at home and 3-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Howard returns to the road to take on North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Greensboro, N.C., and North Carolina Central University on Monday, Jan. 21 in Durham, N.C.
