WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – January 23 – After five consecutive conference games, Howard breaks away from Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action to take on New Jersey Institute of Technology on Thursday, Jan. 24 in Newark, N.J., at 7:00 p.m. 

The Howard University women's basketball team extended its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win streak to three games with a 56-30 win over the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University on Monday, Jan. 21 in the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on the NCCU campus. 

Senior standout Saadia Doyle led the squad with 24 points, while Kara Smith contributed 14 points to the offense. Cheyenne Curley-Payne finished with eight points and nine assists, as Doyle pulled down seven rebounds and Nicole Deterville blocked five NCCU shots.

As a unit, Howard shot 48 percent from the field, 29 percent from the long range and 40 percent from the free-throw line.

On the season, Howard is 10-7, 5-1 at home, 5-6 on the road and 5-1 in the MEAC.

Scouting New Jersey Institute of Technology

• Steve Lanpher is in his first season at NJIT

• The Lady Highlanders are members of the Great West Conference

• NJIT is currently 8-13 overall, 1-1 in the GWC, 6-3 at home, and 2-10 on the road

• The Highlanders fell to Chicago State 57-58 on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Chicago, Ill.

• Uju Nwankwo led in points and rebounds with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Rayven Johnson tallied 13 points

• NJIT shot 39 percent from the field, 27 percent from the three-point range and 73 percent from the free-throw line

• The Lady Highlanders average 37 ppg., while going 27 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 62 percent from the free-throw line

Seeing Double

Lady Bison standout begun her double-double performances, on the season Doyle has:

• 21 points and 10 rebounds (DePaul)

• 12 points and 11 rebounds (Northwestern)

• 24 points and 10 rebounds (Delaware State)

• 25 points and 10 rebounds (Pepperdine)

• 26 points and 15 rebounds (Coppin State)

• 19 points and 13 rebounds (North Carolina A&T)

Consecutive Honors for Doyle

Saadia Doyle was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  The honor was announced on Thursday, Nov. 1.

What Have You Heard about the Herd

Along with Doyle's accolades, the Lady Bison were predicted to finish first in the MEAC this 2012-13 season.

Major News

Among 340 mid-major Division I institutions in the country, the Lady Bison ranked 12th above Richmond (Atlantic 10), Harvard (Ivy) and Central Michigan (Mid-American) on the preseason list.
