HOWARD LADY BISON DEFEAT MORGAN STATE 68-33 ON MONDAY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – February 11 – With a season-high 35-point margin lead, the Howard University Lady Bison not only defeated the Lady Bears of Morgan State, but also achieved the highest margin lead during a 2012-13 conference game and 2012-13 contest in Burr Gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 11 on the Washington, D.C., based campus.
Blue and white senior Saadia Doyle regained her title as team-scoring leader with a team-best 21 points, while fellow classmate Kara Smith tallied 15 points and nationally ranked student-athlete senior Cheyenne Curley-Payne finished with 10 points. Doyle also led in rebounds, by pulling down nine rebounds, as Curley-Payne led in assists (8) and steals (3).
In the victory, Howard shot 37 percent from the field (19-51), 36 percent from the three-point arch (5-14) and 76 percent from the charity stripe (25-33).
Howard and Morgan State went end-to-end in the initial minutes of action.
After three minutes of back-and-forth possessions without a point from either team, Howard's Smith dropped a shot from the long range to put the mighty Lady Bison the board, 3-0.
Morgan State quickly answered about with a three-pointer by Chyress Lockhart at the 17:32 mark, which would mark the only tie between HU and MSU of the night.
By the 7:55 mark, HU held the Lady Bears to a 10-point margin deficit off a single-made free throw from Doyle at the 7:55 mark.
For the second consecutive contest, the Howard defense held an opponent to single digits for over ten minutes of play, as the mighty blue and white held their orange and blue opponent to five points from the 11:04 mark to the 3:22 mark.
By the half, Howard held Morgan State to a 19-point 29-10 lead.
Howard continued to excel offensively, pacing a 14-4 run by the first media timeout of the second half at 15:13.
HU reached a 30-point plus margin lead by the 15:03 mark and finally took a 35-point conference win with a score of 68-33.
Howard continues the season in "Sunshine State" of Florida to face Florida A&M on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Feb. 18.
