HOWARD ENDS THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 65-39 WIN OVER DELAWARE STATE

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – March 2 – It was a great night for the Lady Bison basketball team, who prior to their 65-39 win over Delaware State in Burr Gymnasium on Saturday, March 2 in Washington, D.C., said goodbye to the 2012-13 senior class.

The mighty blue and white said farewell and thank you to Cheyenne Curley-Payne, Nicole Deterville, Portia Deterville, Saadia Doyle, Julee O'Neal, Kara Smith and Adelle Walton.

In the 26-point victory Doyle led the squad with a team-high 17 points, while Julee O'Neal scored a career-high 11 points and freshman Imani Bailey showed the upper classmen she was ready to fill the shoes they would leave behind with 11 points, on a 3-of-5 outing from three point range. Curley-Payne distributed 11 assists and gathered six steals.

Collectively, HU shot 71 percent from the charity stripe (10-14), 34 percent from the field (24-71) and 29 percent from three-point range (7-24).

Howard took a few plays to gather the offensive moment, trailing by six points with a score of 7-13 at the 11:00 mark.

Doyle scored six consecutive points to tie the contest 13-13, then the Lady Bison came together to pace a 14-2 run for a 12-point first-half lead, 27-17.

Howard maintained its power and ended the first 20 minutes of play 31-23. Following the halftime intermission, Howard went into overdrive.

At the 5:57 with three-pointer by Smith, Howard reached a second-half high 27-point lead. The Lady Bison continued down the road to victory and concluded the regular season with a 26-point 65-39 win over Delaware State to close out the 2012-13 regular season.

Howard enters the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament with a record of 18-10 overall, 12-4 in the conference, 9-3 in Burr Gymnasium and 9-7 on the road.
