Howard Defeats Two Ranked Teams at Hawk Classic
MILLSBORO, DEL. - The Howard women's bowling team defeated two ranked teams at the Hawk Classic, hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore, on Nov. 17-18. Bison victories over #19 St. Peter's and #6 New Jersey City highlighted the two day event.
Howard (15-14) went 4-2 in the head-to-head competition on day one and 2-3 in the baker games on day two. The Bison defeated #19 St. Peter's in head to head competition after knocking down 856 pins to 847 by the Peacocks. Howard also took down Norfolk State (771-756), Winston-Salem State (797-642) and North Carolina Central (759-663) on day one.
The Bison were led by Brianna Uzzell, who had a team-high pinfall of 1,066. Uzzell bowled in all six games and recorded a high game of 203 while averaging 177.6 pins. Sicilia Baldwin totaled 919 pins in six games (153.1 average) while Marcia Smith totaled 858 pins in five games (171.6 average). Smith bowled a 227 in game four, a team high that day.
Dalila Cozart (782 pins, five games) and Shayla Haynes (614 pins, four games) also had good performances for HU.
Howard took down #6 New Jersey City, 745-679 in the baker competition on day two and defeated Bowie State 667-557 for its second baker win.
The Bison are off for two weeks, next returning to action on Dec. 1-2 at the Jeanette Lee Invitational, hosted by St. Paul's, in Lawrenceville, Va.
