Howard Has Good Showing at MEAC North Competition
BALTIMORE, MD. - The Lady Bison went 6-3 at MEAC North competition on Nov. 10-11 on the campus of Coppin State University. Howard downed #14 Morgan State for the second straight week and picked up its first win of the season over #18 Delaware State.
The Bison lost just one game in the head-to-head competition and finished day one with a 4-1 mark, defeating CSU (852-700), #14 MSU (929-851), #18 DSU (907-844) and Hampton (842-777). Howard's only loss that day came against #4 UMES, who tallied 992 pins to HU's 918.
Brianna Uzzell bowled five games and paced Howard with a season high pinfall of 993, good for a 198.6 average. The freshman bowled a 223 in game four and a team-high 249 in game five. Marcia Smith, the only other Bison to bowl in all five games, tallied 872 pins and finished with a 174.4 average.
Sicilia Baldwin knocked down 737 pins in four games (184.25 average) and Dalila Cozart totaled 726 pins, good for a 181.5 average.
Day two saw the Lady Bison finish with a 2-2 record in baker competition. Howard defeated Coppin State (728-496) and Hampton (744-689) but fell to Delaware State and Morgan State in its other two matches.
HU returns to action this weekend at the UMES Hawk Classic on Nov. 17-18.
