Bison Drop Home Opener
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's lacrosse squad (0-2) were downed by the Niagara Purple Eagles (1-1) 18-12 Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium in the home opener for the Lady Bison.
The squads kept it fairly even in the first half as they traded goals without either team gaining a major advantage on the offensive end of the field. Rianne Farrugia and Leigh Downing gave Niagara the advantage after each scored a goal in the final two minutes to put the Purple Eagles up 10-8 at the break.
Niagara jumped out in the second half and took an 11-8 lead when Alison Valerio and Erralyn Thomas knocked down one goal each for the Purple Eagles.
Alanah Webb and Sakita Holley scored the next two goals for Howard to close the Bison within two runs of the lead, but Niagara scored the next four goals to put the game away.
Sakita Holley paced Howard with six goals while Webb and Candice Bouknight picked up two goals each. Lauren Rivers and Ashley Lawrence each added a goal.
HU returns to action on Wednesday with a matchup against Wilmington (Del.) at 3 p.m. in Greene Stadium.
