Frostburg State Holds Off Howard, 17-13
FROSTBURG, MD. - The Howard women's lacrosse trailed 13-7 at halftime and rallied to close within 16-13 with 6:04 remaining, but Frostburg State (FSU) held off the visiting Bison, 17-13 on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Desiree Cox had a game-high with five goals and senior Ashlee Brown added three goals. Chasity Dailey chipped a pair of goals for HU (0-4).
Howard jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over the Bobcats in the first six minutes of the game but the FSU used a 10-2 scoring spurt over the next 18 minutes of the game to push their lead to 11-5.
The two squads traded goals in the second half until the 15:37 mark when Jazzmin Drennon's free position shot spurred a four-point scoring run for HU. A goal from Ashley Lawerence and two from Cox trimmed the Bobcat lead to three, 16-13 with just over six minutes in regulation.
Howard remained scoreless the rest of the period, however, and Ali Kapustin added an insurance goal to help Frostburg State hold on for the win.
The Lady Bison will look to rebound when it hosts Liberty on Saturday at 3pm.
