Women's Lacrosse Stays Alive With 17-11 Win Over Liberty

FARMVILLE, VA. - The Howard women's lacrosse team stayed alive in the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) Tournament with a 17-11 victory over Liberty on Saturday. Desiree Cox led HU with a game-high seven goals. She was one of three Bison with a hat trick. Chasity Dailey and Ashlee Brown added three goals apiece for Howard.

Ashley Lawrence also netted two goals for the Lady Bison, who move on to face Presbyterian in a fifth-place battle at 7 PM matchup on Saturday.

Jazzmin Drennon and Chasity Dailey contributed one goal apiece for HU.

Howard jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, but Liberty responded with four straight goals to tie things up at 4-4 with 10:56 remaining in the first half.

Cox scored the final four goals for the Bison, but HU did not have an answer for Sierra Clearwater. Clearwater netted four goals for LU in the final 8:12 and gave the Flames a slim 9-8 lead at the break.

The Lady Bison battled back in the second stanza, however, and outshot Liberty 17-6.  Drennon's goal at 27:26 spurred a 6-0 run by Howard and that's all HU would need to secure the win.
