Jessica Morgan Named Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Jessica Morgan has been tabbed as the head women's lacrosse coach at Howard University, Athletics Director Dwight Datcher announced today.

"We are excited about landing someone of her impeccable credentials," Datcher said. "She is very familiar with the landscape of lacrosse in Maryland and Virginia, having played at University of Virginia and McDonogh High School. I admire her enthusiasm for the game, which should prove invaluable to our student-athletes."

A native of Baltimore, Md., Morgan played four years for the Cavaliers as a defender. She was named the National Player of the Year as a junior and helped UVA to an ACC championship that year. With Morgan's help, Virginia ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense and she later garnered All-American honors, one of four Cavaliers to receive that merit. A 2007 graduate, Morgan has one national championship and three ACC titles to her name and was voted the eighth best African-American lacrosse player of all time.

In 2007, Morgan was among the 48 players named to the United States Elite and Developmental women's lacrosse teams.

Howard opens up its regular season on Feb. 14 with a home matchup against UMBC.
