WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – February 9 – The Howard University women's lacrosse team began the 2013 season by dropping a 20-10 decision to Winthrop University at William H. Greene Stadium on Friday, Feb. 8 in Washington, D.C.
The Bison came out focused and efficient on both ends of the field in the beginning of the match, netting a goal by Jillian Parker in the first 23-seconds.
The Eagles responded with a goal at the 22:01 mark in the first half.
HU's Cynthia Smalls netted a goal with 12:21 left in the first half, for a first-half 2-1 Bison lead.
The Eagles' then went on a scoring spree which proved too much for the Bison. Nine different Winthrop players tallied goals in the contest, led by Hayley Krause's five goals. Megan Wallenhorst and Maddi Genovese contributed four goals. Alyssa Blevins finished with two goals and one assist. Danielle Ellis, Mary Accomando, Taylor Moreau, Carolyn Kraus, and Logan McCarthy all finished with one goal.
Howard's Jaymie Cox and Courtney Lackey led the Bison with three goals, while Victoria Lockhart, Smalls, and Jillian Parker finished with one goal.
Jillian Parker, who was ranked 14th nationally in draw controls, continued her dynamic performance by notching 9 draw controls for the mighty blue and white.
The Bison will return to action on Friday, Feb. 15 to welcome George Washington at 6:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C., at Greene Stadium.
