FARMVILLE, VA. (www.howard-bison.com) -The Howard women's lacrosse team went to Farmville, Va. this weekend to face its toughest competition to date against the Lancers of Longwood. The Bison's match ended on a sour note with a 22-2 loss to LU. It was the third loss of the season for the Bison, who fall to 0-3 overall while Longwood opened their season with the win.
Longwood scored first off an assisted shot in the first four minutes of play. Howard's Courtney Lackey soon answered with a goal from a free position shot to make it a 1-1 game. Longwood answered back with nine unanswered goals leading into the half.
Howard attacked early in the second half, when Lackey scored a commanding second goal in the beginning of the second half, but could not get any type of rhythm.
Howard was out-shot 40-10 and had 10 ground balls to Longwood's 15.
Game Bites:
- The game was delayed an hour because of ice and snow on the field
- Sunday's match tallied 18 meetings between Longwood and Howard
- Courtney Lackey is now the second leading scorer for the Bison
The Bison are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 23, hosting La Salle University. Start time at Greene Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m.
