WASHINGTON DC, Oct. 5—Obioma Ogbuawa scored two goals as Howard University cruised to a 4-0 victory over United Soccer Conference (USC) foe Delaware State at Greene Stadium. The win improves the Bison’s record to 2-7-1, while the Lady Hornets drop to 0-8-1. The match was the conference-opener for both teams.
Howard took the lead in the 10th minute on a goal from Michelle Williston. Twelve minutes later, freshman Brittany Miner extended the Bison lead to 2-0, scoring the first goal of her Howard career. Ogbuawa closed out the scoring for the half in the 39th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Walton, who has played the ironman role all season, was replaced at the start of the second half by Jessamyn Perkins. Neither keeper was seriously tested by the Lady Hornets’ attack, facing only 2 shots, both of which came in the first half and were off target. Ogbuawa’s second goal of the match capped off the scoring at 4-0. Ogbuawa and Williston share the team lead for goals with four apiece on the season. Howard’s dominant performance was evidenced by their 28-2 shot advantage for the game.
The Bison will travel to Orangeburg, SC to take on the Bulldogs of South Carolina State in another conference match-up on October 8. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.
