Final Stats

Albany, NY, Sept. 18—Obioma Ogbuawa scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to give the Howard University women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over the University of Albany (1-8-0) in the Albany Governor’s Cup.  It was the first win of the season for the Lady Bison.

Albany took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jamie Dougherty in the 35th minute.

Howard (1-6-0) got on the board 12 minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal from Michelle Williston.

Then Ogbuawa, a senior mid fielder from Fort Washington, MD, scored from 25 yards out to give Howard the win.

The victory proved to be one of redemption for the Lady Bison, who allowed eight goals during an 8-0 loss to Siena in the opening game on Friday.

Howard was more of the aggressor the second half, out-shooting Albany, 10-4 after intermission.

Senior Lindsey Walton had a sparkling day in goal with 5 saves.

Howard will attempt to win its second straight when it hosts Quinnipiac College on Friday at 4 p.m. in Greene Stadium.
