Keydets overcome deficit, claim 7-4 victory over Lady Bison
LEXINGTON, VA. - The Lady Bison booters took an early 2-0 lead but the Keydets battled back from the deficit to claim a 7-4 victory over Howard Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.
Leading the way for the Lady Bison was freshman Rachael Lee, who tallied a pair of goals, and junior Natalie Williston, who chipped in with the game's first goal and a pair of assists.
Williston got the Lady Bison on the board in the game's sixth minute, beating VMI keeper Angela Redmond from inside of the box. Williston then shared the wealth on the next goal, as Lee headed in a perfect cross from the right wing to give Howard the 2-0 advantage.
A.J. Baker got the Keydets on the board in the 14th minute and Megan Strand's goal tied the score at 2-2. Howard answered back as the combination of Williston to Lee gave HU a 3-2 advantage in the 39th minute. VMI's Alexa Bernas converted a penalty kick to make it 3-3 at the break.
The Keydets were forced to dig out of a hole again after Briana Gamble knocked home the Lady Bison's fourth goal of the day.
VMI took over from there, however, scoring the game's final four tallies to wrap up the win. A pair of insurance goals came in the game's final 13 minutes, with Erin Squires and Baker wrapping up the scoring.
Howard returns to action on Sept. 4 with a non-conference game at St. Francis (PA) at 4pm.
