WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's soccer team earned its first win of the season on Friday night as the Bison defeated Delaware State, 1-0 in a conference decision at Greene Stadium.

"I'm just really happy for the players," Head Coach Erinn Garner said. "They really needed this win."

With the win, HU improves to 1-10 and 1-1 in the United Soccer Conference (USC) while Delaware State falls to 2-8-1 (0-2 USC) with the loss.

The Lady Bison scored at 17:32 in the first half when Stephanie McLean found the back of the net off a Natalie Williston assist.  Howard outshot Delaware State 10-5 and picked up seven corner kicks compared to one by the Hornets.

"I think we came together as a team tonight," Garner added. "We have been using the same lineup for the past few games but we finally jelled together tonight."

DSU keeper Casey Murphy had four saves in the match.  The Bison defense held the Hornets to zero shots on goal while HU had five.

Howard will hit the road for its next three games, beginning with a non-conference matchup against Charleston Southern on Thursday, Oct. 18.
