WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's soccer team battled George Washington and finished with a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium. Goalkeeper Chanel Bell (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos H.S.) made a career-high 16 saves to notch the shutout for the Lady Bison (0-4-1). For GW (2-1-1), keeper Lindsey Rowe made three saves.
"We were well structured and our defense was very solid," said head coach Brent Leiba. "It was a great environment today. I am proud of our team and I thought that we improved throughout the game."
HU was outshot 29-4 in the matchup, but the Lady Bison defense helped stifle the Colonials. Bell had seven saves in the first half before stopping another seven shots in the second period. The California native added a pair of saves in the first overtime to finish with 16, the game-high.
Howard had an opportunity in the second overtime as Rachael Lee (Ontario, Canada/Loyola Secondary S.S.) sent a shot in the 111th minute. George Washington earned a corner kick in the second OT, but the kick sailed long and the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The Bison return to action at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13, taking on San Jose State in a contest at Greene Stadium.
