Lady Bison Compete at Morgan State Invitational
BALTIMORE, MD. - Howard women's tennis team fared well at the Morgan State Invitational on Oct. 3-5 in Baltimore, Md.
Freshman Ashley Moore picked up three wins wins in singles action. Moore defeated North Carolina A&T's Jaymee Jones (6-4, 6-2) before downing Viktoriya Lukyanenko of Morgan State, 6-1, 6-2. The Miami, Fla. native later went on to defeat Winnie Quick of NCAT, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
Alyssa Works also had three wins at Morgan State. Works took down Pola Olczak 6-0, 6-1 before defeating A&T's Nigato (6-0, 6-1) and Henry (6-0, 6-0).
Junior Michele Gee defeated Walaa Elsir 6-1, 6-2 but lost to Lukyanenko in a tough matchup, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6). Gee also fell to Winnie Quick of NCAT, 6-3, 6-3.
Sydney Sears picked up wins over Danielle McCaskill (6-3, 7-5) and Sydney Collins of MSU (6-1, 6-2). The freshman was downed by Morgan State's Ferdinand, 6-2, 6-2.
Howard had a pair of doubles teams go undefeated at the MSU invite. Moore/Gee teamed up to defeat Quick/Jones (NCAT) 8-6 and Lukyanenko/Thomas (MSU) 9-7. Moore and Gee later blanked Nigatu/Williams, 8-0.
Works and Sears paired up to defeat Nigatu/Williams (8-3), Quick/Jones (7-7, retired) and Henry/McCaskill (8-2).
The meet wrapped up a successful fall campaign for the Lady Bison. Moore finished 5-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles for season while Works went 7-1 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.
Gee went 5-4 in singles and 5-1 in doubles in the fall campaign while Sears finished 2-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles.
Howard opens up its regular season on Jan. 31 against Old Dominion.
