Howard Blanks Mount St. Mary's
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's tennis team swept Mount St. Mary's on Saturday 7-0 in a Think Pink match at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center. The match raised over $600 for the Tigerlily Foundation in an effort to increase breast cancer awareness.
Michelle Brown won for the second straight time and improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Chelsea Johnson at No. 1 singles.
Brittney Morgan also moved to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles versus Emily Bolchoz. Michele Gee upped her record to 2-0 with a 7-6 (13-11), 6-3 win at No. 4 singles for the Lady Bison.
Ashley Moore was victorious at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carly Landini while Alyssa Works and Anne Akhimien won easily at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Morgan and Works improved to 2-0 in doubles play with an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 position. Akhimien and Gee remained undefeated with an 8-6 win at No. 3 while Moore and Brown won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Howard (0-2) travels to Annapolis, Md. on Thursday for a 3 p.m. match against Navy.
