WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's tennis team clinched the top spot in the MEAC Northern Division with a 5-2 win over Hampton Saturday afternoon at Banneker Courts.
The win over the Pirates capped a 3-0 weekend for the Bison. Howard also defeated Maryland Eastern Shore (4-0) and Delaware State (4-0) in a pair of matches on Friday in Dover, Del.
Howard (11-3, 5-0 MEAC) took down Hampton after winning the doubles point and taking four wins in singles action.
Michelle Brown came from behind to defeat Jovana Sangria, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Brittney Morgan made easy work of Na Hyun Baek at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0 before Alyssa Works took down Baranese Myers, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Michele Gee was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0 and improved to 7-4 on the season.
Brown and Ashley Moore teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles while Gee and Anne Akhimien won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
