RALEIGH, N.C. - Brittney Morgan won her contest at No. 2 singles but it was not enough as South Carolina State defeated Howard, 4-1 in the title match of the MEAC Tennis Championship.
Morgan, an All-Tournament team selection, defeated Fanni Friska 6-3, 6-1 to aid the Lady Bison. The Lady Bulldogs rallied back with wins at the three and six positions. South Carolina State later clinched the championship title when Sarai Torres took down Alyssa Works in a hard fought 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Bulldogs won their sixth consecutive MEAC title with the victory.
"The team fought hard," Howard head coach Larry Strickland said. "I'm very proud of them."
Morgan was joined on the All-Tournament team by Michelle Brown (No. 1 singles) and Anne Akhimien (No. 6 singles).
"We played a really talented Howard team, which had a great season," South Carolina State coach Hardeep Judge said. "This championship win means a lot because we had so many injuries throughout the season. My girls just fought hard."
