Women's Tennis Earns No. 1 Seed at MEAC Championship; Bison Men Earn No. 2 Seed

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - The Howard women's team earned a No. 1 seed at the upcoming MEAC Championship, slated for April 16-18 at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. HU finished 5-0 in conference play and won their first MEAC divisional title. The men's squad earned a No. 2 seed after posting a 4-1 league record. 

"We're looking forward to the championships," Head Coach Larry Strickland said. "We are looking forward to two tough match ups in Bethune-Cookman for the men and North Carolina A&T for the women."

Howard finished atop the northern divisional standings to earn the top seed and divisional title. The Lady Bison finished 12-3 overall and are currently riding an eight match win streak.

The Bison men relinquished just one conference match all season, a 5-2 loss to No. 1 seed Hampton.

Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete for the conference title. Seedings are determined by overall conference records. Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore's men's and women's teams along with Norfolk State's women's team have been eliminated from tournament play based on their MEAC record.

Competition tips off on Friday, April 16 at 8:30 a.m. The semifinals begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and the women's championship match commences on Sunday, April 18 at 9 a.m. The men's championship final will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Admission to the MEAC Tennis Championship is free and open to the public.
