Lady Bison Roll to an Impressive 5-0 Sweep of Norfolk St.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Howard women's tennis team snapped its four game skid after ousting Norfolk State University, 5-0, on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

The Bison (1-3) pushed Norfolk State (0-5) into a record low season start of five straight losses. The teams played in a series of four singles matches and one doubles match.

Spartan senior Jennifer Astbury would try to close in on Howard's Brooke Hawthorne, she would be taken down in two sets (6-4, 6-2) by the freshman. Freshman Katelyn Stokes, sophomore Brittney Morgan, and junior Anne Ahkimien would easily sweep NSU in the remaining singles matches.

Senior Alyssa Works and junior Ashley Moore teamed up to complete the sweep in the doubles match. The duo went on to defeat the Spartans, 8-3.

"The ladies played well in this early season matchup," said head coach Larry Strickland. "Norfolk State is solid team."

The Bison will set their sights on obtaining their second win of the season as they take on George Washington on Feb. 6 at 1:00 p.m. Listed below for the complete results of Howard's win over Norfolk State. Visit Howard-Bison.com for the latest news and results regarding Howard tennis.
