QUEENS, N.Y. - The Lady Bison Tennis Team won a hard fought four hour battle with St. Johns. Howard won the doubles point with wins at No. 1. Brittney Morgan and Katelyn Stokes beat Nevena Selacovic and Diamond Adams 8-6, while Michelle Brown and Brooke Hawthorne sealed the point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Joanna Zwinlulis and Terri Thomas.
The Red Storm tied the score at one all when Ece Firat bested Michelle Brown 6-2, 6-2 but Howard went back up 2-1 with Brooke Hawthorne winning 6-4, 6-4. St Johns tied the score again 2-2 when Diamond Adams defeated Brittney Morgan 7-5,6-0. The match was tied again after Talia Johnson was victorious at No. 5 singles beating Nakita Austin 7-6(5), 6-2 and Katelyn Stokes losing a 3-hour slugfest 6-4, 0-6, 7-5. Anne Akhimien clinched the match at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
"Today's match was a real confidence builder for the ladies," said head coach Larry Strickland. "This will be a good team."
The Lady Bison will be back in action next Saturday in Durham, N.C. when they face North Carolina Central.
