QUEENS, N.Y. - The Lady Bison Tennis Team won a hard fought four hour battle with St. Johns. Howard won the doubles point with wins at No. 1. COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The Lady Bison tennis took on the 40th ranked University of Maryland Terps at the College Park Tennis Center. Maryland won all nine matches in a highly contested team match. The Terps behind the 37th ranked doubles team of Cristina Stancu and Welma Luus won all three doubles matches. Maryland earned straight set victories at No. 1 and 2 singles led by Stancu, ranked at 28th in the nation.

The women's tennis team opened the Spring 2012 campaign with a close loss, 4-3 to Old Dominion Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia. The Lady Bison who are picked to win MEAC North had wins at 2, 3 and 6 singles. Sophomore All Conference, Katelyn Stokes collected the first point at number 2 singles beating ODU's Juliana Pire 6-3, 6-4, followed by a win at 3 singles by sophomore Brooke Hawthorne over Melissa Esnal Olbuin 6-4, 6-1, the Howard scoring was rounded out with a win at 6 single when senior Anne Akhimien defeated Faith Atiso in a hard fought three setter, 6-2, 5-7,6-4. The Lady Bison are in action again Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 1:00pm against the University of Maryland at the College Park Tennis Center.

W. Tennis Achieve Success at Bill and Sandra Moore Invite
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Women’s Tennis Team had an outstanding weekend at the eight team, Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy. With just four entries due to injuries the Lady Bison won four of the six events contested. The doubles team of Anne Akhimien and Katelyn Stokes won the B Doubles over the Naval Academy team of Dye Das and Gabby Winter in the finals 8- 4 on Saturday. In Sunday’s singles finals, sophomore Katelyn Stokes won the A flight beating teammate junior Brittney Morgan in a shorten match 8-6. Freshman Talia Johnson playing her first collegiate competition won the C flight besting Towson’s Ayana Dow in a match tiebreaker 6-7(2), 6-4, 1-0(10-5). Senior Anne Akhimien easily beat Towson’s Judy Mont in the C flight finals 6-3, 6-0. The Lady Bison will be back in action October 7th at the Hampton Roads Invitational in Newport News, Virginia.

Seven Members of the Howard Tennis Team Achieve National ITA Scholar-Athlete Award Status
Five women and two men qualified for Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s 2011 National ITA Scholar-Athlete’s Award. The award is given annually tennis student-athletes who are varsity letter winners, have a grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters.

Bison Netters Earn ITA Awards for 13th Consecutive Year
Four members of the Howard University tennis team were named All-Academic Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of collegiate tennis. Whitney Ambush (women's tennis), Christopher Brown (men's tennis), Eric Chavous (men's tennis) and Chad Jones (men's tennis) received the honor based on their work on the court and in the classroom.

Moore Wins No. 1 Singles vs. Bethune-Cookman
Freshman Ashley Moore defeated Katarina Szaboova at No. 1 singles during action at the MEAC Championship on April 17 in Raleigh, N.C. The Lady Bison dropped the match, 4-0.

Gee, Moore Garner All-Conference Honors
Senior Michael Gee (Staten Island, N.Y./Clemson) and freshman Ashley Moore (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) garnered All-MEAC honors, the conference announced today. Gee was named to the All-MEAC first team while Moore collected All-MEAC second team honors.

Officials at the MEAC Conference announced the fields for the 2009 MEAC Tennis Championship, set to begin Friday, April 17 in Raleigh, N.C. The Lady Bison were selected as the two seed in the north, while the men's squad qualified as the third seed.

Freshman Ashley Moore defeated Zsofia Jakab at No. 1 singles during play versus Longwood on Saturday. The Lady Bison dropped the match, 6-1.

Lady Bison Sweep MEAC Honors for Second Straight Week
Junior Michele Gee (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis H.S.) and freshman Ashley Moore (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) swept the MEAC Weekly Tennis Honors for the second week in a row. Gee was named the league's Player of the Week while Moore earned her third Rookie of the Week selection.
