Delaware State Tops Howard, 3-0

DOVER, DEL. - An extra-point set highlighted Sunday afternoon's match as the Howard volleyball team fell to Delaware State, 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-18) in MEAC action at Memorial Gym.

The Lady Bison got a team-high 19 kills from junior Gazelle d'Artois while sophomore Gabrielle Martin added 10 kills. HU currently ranks third in MEAC standings and dropped to 4-4 in league play with the loss.

Nicole Brown had a match-high nine digs and Jasmine King chipped in 32 assists and seven digs.

Howard had the Lady Hornets on the ropes in set one, leading 26-25 late in the set. DSU came back to tie it at 26 before a Sarah Wheatcroft kill regained the lead for Delaware State. A pair of Bison miscues at 27-27 gave the Hornets a win in the seesaw battle, 29-27.

In set two, Howard tied it up at 12 on a kill from d'Artois. That would be the last tie of the set as DSU took a six-point advantage en route to the 25-19 win.

The third set featured eight tie scores, the last coming at 16. The Lady Hornets took a quick 5-2 run and after a Howard timeout, and scored three straight to capture the match.

Delaware State, paced by 14 kills each from Cassandra Joyner and Erica Tajchman, improved to 6-2 in league action.

Howard will face Hampton on Friday (Nov. 6) at 7 p.m. at Burr Gym in its final home match of the season.
