Howard Falls at Western Carolina Tournament

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Howard fell in three matchups during action at the VB Rags Western Carolina Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C. The Lady Bison dropped a pair of matches to Cleveland State and Gardner-Webb, respectively, on Friday before falling to the host Catamounts on Saturday.

Cleveland State defeated Howard 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 in HU's first match of the invite. The Lady Bison took a set from Gardner-Webb in its second matchup but fell in four (25-22, 12-25, 20-25, 17-25). Howard dropped its final decision, a 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 contest to Western Carolina.

Sophomore Tosin Elebute posted a team-high 12 kills against Cleveland State while freshman Jasmine King and junior Nicole Brown had seven digs each.

Junior Gazelle d'Artois finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs against Gardner-Webb. Nicole Brown added 13 digs, the match-high, and Elebute chipped in 11 kills.

d'Artois led all players with 12 kills in the loss to Western Carolina. Junior Nia Moore had a career-high 10 kills while adding four block assists, three sets and three digs. Moore also hit .400 in the decision, career-high (10-2-20).

Nicole Brown tied the match-high in digs with 10.

Howard (1-11) returns to DC for a contest against cross-town rival American on Tuesday. Match time is 7 pm at Bender Arena.
