SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Junior Gazelle d'Artois had 18 kills and 14 digs and freshman Taylor Montgomery added 10 kills and 10 blocks to lead Howard to a 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21) win over Bryant on the opening day of the Bryant Invitational on Saturday.
HU held a 20-12 advantage in blocks as Montgomery led the way with her career-high 10 blocks.
The Lady Bison also got double-figure digs from three players to defeat the host Bulldogs (3-11).
d'Artois' 14 digs led the way with junior Nicole Brown adding 13 and sophomore Gabrielle Martin posting 12.
Martin chipped in seven kills while Nia Moore fell just shy of a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. The junior also added four blocks.
The Lady Bison hit .250 in the decision (49-18-124) and limited Bryant to a .061 attack percentage in set three.
Junior Keri Partridge had a good all-around game for the Lady Bison and contributed five kills, five digs and three assists while hitting .714 (5-0-7).
Howard (2-17) dropped its opening match to Brown on day one of the tournament and finished the day with a 1-1 mark. d'Artois had a team-high 15 kills while Partridge added seven.
Nicole Brown led all players with 13 digs on the defensive end while d'Artois and Martin each added nine.
Setter Jasmine King chipped in 29 assists and five digs.
HU wraps up tournament action on Sunday, Sept. 27 with a non-conference tilt against Coppin State. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
