Volleyball Sweeps Weekend - Wins Third Straight

BALTIMORE, MD/WASHINGTON, DC – The Lady Bison swept its weekend MEAC games with a 3-2 win (25-21, 27-25, 25-27, 19-25, 15-13) over Morgan State and a 3-2 victory (25-16, 14-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-11) over Delaware State. With the wins, Howard improves to 4-3 in conference play.

Against the Bears, four HU players finished with double-digit kills. Tosin Elebute finished 22-for-59 for a .220 kill percentage. Gabrielle Martin went 13-for-27 for a .444 hitting clip. Keri Partridge and Taylor Johnson both chipped in with 10 kills apiece. Jasmine King assisted on 46-of-66 total Lady Bison kills.

The defensive effort was spread throughout the team with Nicole Brown leading the defensive effort with 23. Gazelle d'Artois had 16 digs and was a kill shy of a double-double with nine. d'Artois also added six blocks assisted. Jiya Brown finished with 14 digs on the evening.

The Lady Bison came out with the same intensity against Delaware State – winning the first set convincingly, 25-16.

"We came out of the gates great" said head coach Dawn Barnes. "We needed to minimize our service errors from Friday night and we did that."

Elebute led the offensive effort with 17 kills. Martin finished with 10 kills. King dished out 32 assists. Three Lady Bison finished with doube-digit digs. N. Brown, J. Brown, and d'Artois led the defense with 15 digs.

"Our outside players like Elebute swung big," said Barnes. "Martin had some key plays for us. d'Artois, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, had her best game of the season tonight – she served, passed, and hit well. Overall it was a great game for us."
