WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tosin Elebute and Keri Partridge recorded 15 and 10 kills for Howard, as the Lady Bison topped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 25-16) at Burr Gymnasium Sunday Nov. 7.
The loss for UMES (19-11, 8-2 MEAC) marks the first time it has been swept in conference since Oct. 14, 2006 against North Carolina A&T in Orangeburg, S.C. With the win, the Lady Bison improve to 5-4 in the MEAC and have won four of the last five contests.
Today's game was the last match in Burr Gymnasium for seniors Gazelle d'Artois, Nicole Brown, and Partridge. "It was a great win for my seniors," said Barnes.
As a team, Howard finished a stellar 38-of-97 for a .320 hitting clip. The Lady Bison had a season-low seven attacks errors for the entire match.
UMES led 14-7 early the first game. Howard closed the gap to juts three at 18-15 on a Hawk error before a UMES timeout.
The Hawks then pushed it to 24-18 on a kill but couldn't finish things, as the Lady Bison fought off six game points and eventually took the game 30-28.
Howard led virtually the entire second game. UMES got within one point on an ace at 13-12 and two at 17-15 on a block, but HU carried the play. An Elebute kill gave Howard game point at 24-18 and a d'Artois ace sealed the game.
The Lady Bison will play its regular season finale at Delaware State on Nov. 11 beginning at 6 p.m.
