Howard Volleyball Announces 2010 Schedule

2010 Schedule

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard University women’s volleyball coach Dawn Barnes announced her team’s 2010 schedule on Thursday. The non-conference slate includes matches with opponents from the Big East, Mid-American and Atlantic-10 conferences, local foes Georgetown, George Washington and American, and four tournaments.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming season,” Barnes said. “I feel really good coming in with a strong group of returning players. I look forward to getting started on August 9.”

Howard tips the season off on Saturday, August 28 at the WVU Classic hosted by West Virginia. Tourney play pits HU against Buffalo, Akron and the host Mountaineers.

The Lady Bison will open its home schedule on Wednesday, September 1 when it hosts Lafayette of the Patriot League.

Next is a trip to Youngstown, Ohio, for the YSU Invitational on September 3-4. Howard faces off against Youngstown State on September 3 before battling Central Michigan and Niagara in the finale on September 4.

After making the short cross-town trip to face Georgetown on September 8, HU will take part in the Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament hosted by UMBC, September 10-11. The tournament also includes Towson and Sacred Heart.

The Lady Bison will also play in the Kristen Dickmann Memorial Tournament in Annapolis, Md., September 17 and 18. Howard plays Maryland Eastern Shore on September 17 and Navy, along with Hartford, on September 18.

HU wraps up its non-conference slate on September 29 at Loyola (Md).

MEAC play begins on October 8 when Howard hosts Coppin State at Burr Gymnasium.

The MEAC Championship returns to Baltimore, Md. and the campus of Coppin State University this season. The 2010 tourney runs from November 19-21.
