Close, but Not Enough for the Lady Bison

GREENSBORO, NC – The Lady Bison (1-11) came up short as they battled the Radford Highlanders (4-8) in Fleming Gymnasium in day one of the Spartan Spiketacular hosted by UNC-Greensboro.

Set scores for the match were 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, and 11-25.

Howard fell short the first set, but gained enough momentum to snatch the second set. With high adrenaline leading into the third set, the Lady Bison started off on a high. After a few unforced errors it seemed the Lady Bison couldn't get out of their slump loosing games three and four to the Highlanders.

Senior outside hitter, Tosin Elebute, led both teams in kills slamming a total of 18 balls to the ground. Senior middle blocker, Taylor Johnson, put down eight balls for the Lady Bison. The Lady Bison out blocked the Highlanders 10 blocks to five.

For the Highlanders, Emily Carlin had 15 kills followed by teammate Rachel Wiechechi with 12 kills and 12 digs for a double double to end the match. Defensively Rachel Brummitt picked up 16 digs for the Highlanders.

Tomorrow the Lady Bison take on host UNC Greensboro and Memphis in Fleming Gymnasium, still in search of a win.
