Howard Splits Season Series With Morgan State

BALTIMORE, MD – The Howard University Lady Bison (5-23, 4-7 MEAC) split with the Morgan State University Bears (10-18, 8-4 MEAC) Friday night in the Hill Field House.

The Bears defeated the Lady Bison in three sets. Set scores for the match were 20-25, 13-25, and 13-25.

Senior Gabrielle Martin stepped up for the Bison by playing at multiple positions, finishing with nine kills. Assata Conway chipped in four kills. Jasmine King dished out ten assists followed by Stephanie Shultis with six.

Defensively, freshman Alexis Skinner picked up six digs followed by Meagan Lagerlef with five digs. As a team, Howard finished with a total of five blocks, just one shy of Morgan State.

For the Bears, Erin Cox and Kierra Outlin put down eight kills a piece. Zurie Smith and Ashley Johnson both finished with four kills. Setter Natalie Chafeh put up 23 assists. Jourdan Lemons picked up nine digs.

"We came out aggressive tonight which is what we wanted; we just couldn't overcome the mistakes on offense," says head coach Dawn Barnes. "We blocked well but it just wasn't enough to contain Morgan State."

Next the Howard University Lady Bison take on the Coppin State University Eagles Sunday in Baltimore, Maryland at 3pm.
