BALTIMORE, MD – Howard University (6-23, 5-7 MEAC) traveled to Coppin State University (5-24, 1-11 MEAC) Sunday to battle in the last match of the regular season. The Lady Bison shot down the Eagles in a tough five sets.
Set scores for the match were 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 15-12.
For the Bison, senior Gabrielle Martin finished the match with 11 kills and eight digs. Freshmen Assata Conway and Destinee Harrison both chipped in for a total of 15 kills. Meagan Lagerlef put down six balls for the Lady Bison. Stephanie Shultis was a dig shy of a triple double finishing with 14 kills, 19 assists and nine digs to end the match. Setter Jasmine King recorded her season's first double double with 26 assists and ten digs.
Defensively, Jasmine Tipton dug up 11 balls followed by Alexis Skinner with ten digs. Middle Blocker, Conway had seven block assists assisted by Shultis, Lagerlef and Martin with three. Harrison finished with two block assists.
For CSU, Janka Schmitt finished with 17 kills for the Eagles followed by Ariel Richard and Christina Epps with 13 kills. Kristine Bindule put up 48 assists.
Defensively, Ariel Richard dug 13 balls assisted by Gabrielle Otero with 16 digs.
"The Lady Bison had a solid performance from start to finish; collectively everyone did their part, played with energy, emotion and determination," comments Head Coach Dawn Barnes. "I was very pleased with our blocking game. It was a great way to end the season."
