BALTIMORE, MD-- The Howard University Lady Bison (6-23) came out ready to play as they took on the South's number one seed Florida A&M University (12-12) on Friday Nov. 18 in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament held at Coppin State University.

Howard played a great opening set loosing 24-26 after having a four point lead during the latter part of the set. The second set was tough for the Lady Bison. Unforced errors caused the Bison to come up short for the win finishing 16-25.

After a ten minute intermission, Howard fought for each point but was unable to bring out the win, falling 19-25 to end the match and the 2011 season.

The offensive and defensive efforts were distributed evenly for the Lady Bison.

"I am very proud of these young ladies," said head coach Dawn Barnes. "They came out of the gates and fought hard in the first couple of sets. Very pleased with Freshman Assata Conway and Destinee Harrison. They had solid blocking performances and big swings at the net. We had young players playing with some talented players of Florida AM and we worked hard for every point. Could not be more proud of them. Already looking forward to Spring! Freshman Meagan Lagerlef had a solid serving game and kept us in the match the first two sets."

The Bison will look to build during the offseason and prepare for 2012.
