2012 HU Volleyball Quick Facts
WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) - The 2012 Howard University women's volleyball program will feature more than just a new coach. This season, the squad led by newly hired HU head women's volleyball coach Shaun Kupferberg will fight through three flustering season under the motto, "Facta, non verba" or "Deeds, not words."
"If we are going to accomplish our goals this year it is going to be because we worked hard both physically and mentally. The less we talk, the more focused we will be on the court," said Kupferberg.
Since 2008, the mighty red and blue have found themselves with three consecutive single-digit wins.
"We are looking forward to beginning a new era of Bison volleyball. Our only concern is getting better every day for the next four months," said Kupferberg.
HU opens competition on the road, beginning with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J., on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Following action in the Garden State, HU embarks on three consecutive tournaments. On Aug. 31- Sept. 1, the Bison participate in the University of Pittsburgh Panther Invitational. During two days of competition HU will face squads from Coastal Carolina, Butler, Cleveland State and the hosts Pitt.
The Bison return to action in Baltimore, Md., for the Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) on Sept. 7-8. The RAC arena will consists of volleyball competition from Robert Morris, Colorado, James Madison, UMBC and Howard.
For the last regular-season tournament, HU travels to William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., for 2012 Colonial Challenge.
The next 13 matches consist of the best 3-out-of-5 action between Howard and its fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division constitutes and a match against American University.
During the remainder of September, HU welcomes Delaware State to Burr Gymnasium for the official home opener on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 30 the mighty red and blue takes on Maryland Eastern Shore at 3:00 p.m.
The month of October consist of road contests, the Bison will go to Hampton on Friday, Oct. 5 (6:00 p.m.), Norfolk State on Sunday, Oct. 7 (3:00 p.m.), Coppin State on Friday, Oct. 12 (7:00 p.m.), and Morgan State on Sunday, Oct. 14 (7:00 p.m.).
HU returns to the comforts of Burr to host American on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
The red and blue concludes regular-season road action at Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, Oct. 26 and Delaware State on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
The final four matches will be played at home with the Bison hosting Norfolk State on Friday, Nov. 2 (7:00 p.m.), Hampton on Sunday, Nov. 4 (3:00 p.m.), Morgan State on Friday, Nov. 9 (7:00 p.m.), and Coppin State on Sunday, Nov. 11 (3:00 p.m.).
HU takes five days to rest, regroup and practice before participating in the 2012 MEAC Tournament in hosted by Coppin State. Conference tournament action begins on Nov. 16.
