HOWARD VOLLEYBALL NOTCHES ITS FIRST SET WIN AT UMBC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – During the two-day Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament, Howard University attained its first set win during four matches hosted by UMBC on Sept. 7-8 (Friday and Saturday) in Baltimore, Md.

The UMBC event featured squads from James Madison, Robert Morris, Colorado, UMBC, and Howard.

HU fell to James Madison 3-1, Robert Morris 3-0, Colorado 3-0, and UMBC 3-0.

In the four-set loss to JMU, Meagan Lagerlef tallied 11 kills on 33 attempts, Stephanie Shultis circulated 30, while on the defensive end Jaleeza Stoudermire amassed 20 digs, as Skyler Arbuckle and Shultis assisted on three blocks apiece.  HU took JMU to four sets of action with the Bison taking set three 28-26.

During the match against Robert Morris, Shultis tallied 11 kills, returning setter Jasmine King distributed 13 assists and Jasmine Tipton gathered 20 digs.

Saturday's play began with Colorado.  Assata Conway and Shultis notched three kills apiece, while King finished with six assists, and Stoudermire tallied five digs.

In the final game of the tournament, Conway and Lagerlef led the offense with six kills each, Shultis amassed 13 assists and Tipton collected seven digs. 

For their final tournament of the regular season, HU ventures to William & Mary for the Colonial Challenge in Williamsburg, Va., on Sept. 14-15
