Blog Week 4: Skyler Arbuckle

Sooooo for this week's installment of the Howard Volleyblog, I have been picked to update ya'll with whets been new. For starters we have just added a new member to our coaching staff named Rich!! (I'm not sure of his last name so I just call him Rich) Any who talk about him and Coach K being complete opposites; I LOVE IT! Rich brings a lot of spunk, energy, and fire; his positive energy is so infectious. If he can't bring a smile to your face I don't know who could. We have been working as a team to improve and now with the extra help from Rich, I know we will reach our goals.

We also just came off of our tournament this weekend at UMBC where we played a host of schools, some I was personally familiar with and some not. While the records will show that our record is now 0-8, I always remember what Coach K keeps reminding us of. Yes we lost, but we are learning how to win. That is in NO WAY any excuse to accept losing as well though. He also stressed in the locker room that we as a team have to change the culture in Howard athletics that losing is "ok". It's also the feeling of hating to lose, more than you love to win. We are definitely learning other things too such as discipline, and the concept of "all for one and one for all". That includes winning and losing as a team, being on time as a team, and even respecting the team rules we made as a team.

Each week that goes by I reckon we will reach the goals we have set for ourselves, but we will only get there by how bad we really want it. This same determination will also determine how fast we will get it done. We will keep improving each day we have practice, and I can honestly say I learn something new every day! I'm looking forward to all of the positive outcomes, and improving not only as a player, but as a person under Coach K's tutelage.
