HOWARD VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS MORGAN STATE IN 3-1 VICTORY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.howard-bison.com) – A double-figures performance by sophomores Meagan Lagerlef and Stephanie Shultis and a season-high 17 kills by Lagerlef guided the Lady Bison to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20) victory over Morgan State on Friday, Nov. 9 in Burr Gymnasium.

Friday's win marks the first victory of the 2012 season and the first conference win of the season.

"It feels great to get this win, now we just need to keep the energy,  continue to mature and head into Sunday's game," said head women's volleyball coach Shaun Kupferberg.

Along with the sophomore duos hitting performance, Shultis circulated 29 assists and served up seven service aces, while Jasmine Tipton collected 13 digs and Destinee Harrison notched three solo blocks.

"She (Lagerlef) did what was asked of her tonight…she played defense and smart offense and that's all we can ask for," said Kupferberg.

HU dusted MSU off fairly quickly in the first two sets of play with a 25-17, 25-18 win, respectively.

But following the intermission between sets two and three the Lady Bears were determined not go into hibernation and took set three 26-24.

Nonetheless, the herd reestablished its momentum and sealed the match with a 25-20 set four win.

Howard concludes the regular season with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Coppin State on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
