            Princess Anne, MD, September 24--The Howard University women’s cross-country team scored 22 points on their way to winning the 2005 Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

            Senior Indira Garcia (Washington, DC, Archbishop Carroll HS) ran an outstanding 19:18.43 to lead the Lady Bison.  Garcia, who was on pace to set a course record, finished second overall to Janeth Chelangat (UMES) who in fact set a meet record with 19:14.54.  Ashley Vann (19:30.96), Amanda Stevenson (19:52.20), Tasha Harris (20:22.51) and Aisha Franklin (20:26.42) finished third, fourth, sixth and seventh to help the Lady Bison secure the victory.

            The Howard men’s cross-country team fell two points shy of winning the Cappy Anderson Invitational finishing second to host University of Maryland Eastern Shore, finishing the meet with 40 points.  Freshman Garnett Amin (Honeybrook, PA, Coatesville HS) lead the Bison finishing fourth (26:38.89).  Cordis Stanfield (26:55.38) and Christopher Taylor (28:00.51) were the only other Bison to finish in the top 10, finishing fifth and ninth respectively.

            Both Howard men and women teams will travel to Manassas, VA this Saturday to participate in the George Mason Invitational.
