Bison Men, Women Take Third at MEAC XC Championships
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - The Howard men's and women's cross country team each took third place at the 2007 MEAC Cross Country Championships at Mt. Trashmore Park on Saturday.
The men's squad tallied 116 points in its third place finish. The women's team finished with 89 points and were edged by Hampton, who took second with 84 points.
Freshman Ashley Hodges turned in a good performance and finished second overall in 18:41.2. Senior Jessica Neal was not too far behind and crossed the line in 19:00.3, good for fourth overall. Both were named to the All-MEAC team.
The men's squad saw two of its own place in the top 15. Thurman Sanders was 10th in 27:13.3 and Jerod Franklin was 13th after crossing the line in 27:33.9. Sanders and Franklin were named to the men's All-MEAC team for their accomplishments.
UMES won the men's and women's XC title. The top women's finisher was the Hawks' Merrecia James in 18:27.7 while Norfolk State's Dominic Luka was the men's top finisher in 25:09.2.
The Bison will now wait and see if anyone qualifies for the NCAA Regional meet, slated for Nov. 10 in Bethlehem, Pa.
