MEAC Cross-Country Championships This Weekend

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - The 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championships will take place this Saturday, October 27 at Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Lady Pirates of Hampton won last year's women's championship, finishing 30 points ahead of second place Howard. The Norfolk Spartans, winners of an unprecedented seven straight crowns, will vie for its eight consecutive championship.

The Lady Bison own three of the top 20 finishes in the MEAC this season. Ashley Hodges owns the third highest conference time (18:27.07) while Jessica Neal (18:39.04) has the fifth highest finish. 

Brittany Jackson's finish in 20:18.04 at UMES' Cappy Anderson meet puts her 19th overall.

The men's team also has a trio in the top MEAC performer list. Jerod Franklin's 27:48 finish at the Delaware Invite puts him 13th highest in conference while teammate Thurman Sanders is not too far behind and ranks 14th overall (27:56.4). 

Michael Gallion's 28:17.3 finish in the 8K race at James Madison puts him 19th highest in conference this season.  

The MEAC Cross Country Championships will begin with the women's five-kilometer (5K) course at 9:45 a.m. followed by the men's eight-kilometer (8K) course at 10:30 a.m. Mount Trashmore Park is located at 310 Edwin Drive in Virginia Beach, Va. The event is free and open to the public.
