PRINCESS ANNE, MD. - Thurman Sanders and Michael Gallion earned all-conference honors leading the Bison to an third-place finish at the MEAC Cross-Country Championship Saturday afternoon at Maryland Eastern Shore. Ashley Hodges and Jami Hardy garnered All-MEAC honors and paced the women's squad to a fifth-place finish.
Sanders earned all-conference honors for the third consecutive year by finishing 10th overall in a time of 27:17.37. Gallion joined him with his 15th place finish in 27:45.20.
Led by Sanders, the Bison won bronze in the team standings with 103 points, just three points shy of runner-up Delaware State. Norfolk State won the team title with 33 points. Maryland Eastern Shore (108 pts) was fourth followed by Morgan State (119 pts), Hampton (132 pts) and Florida A&M (158 pts).
Richard Williams (28:01.03, 20th overall) and Jerod Franklin (28:25.28, 24th overall) were the next two runners to finish the race.
Peter Gentles, Hamadi Price and Brandon Hill also competed for HU.
Hodges paced the women's squad with a 10th place finish in 19:24.50. Jami Hardy snagged an All-Conference nod after taking 13th in 19:39.54.
Tamila Myles (20:44.45) and Danielle Douglas (22:15.94) were the third and fourth Howard finishers.
Brittany Jackson (22:49.40) , Amelia Woodruff (25:24.58) and Anita Crumlin (27:41.84) also saw action for HU.
Norfolk State won the team title with 49 points. North Carolina A&T and Maryland Eastern Shore tied for second with 74 points followed by Hampton (78 pts), Howard (140 pts), Delaware State (155 pts) and South Carolina State (181 pts).
