What happened exactly?
On June 22nd 2022, a powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan’s rural and mountainous regions. The earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan close to Pakistan’s border with a magnitude 6.

Bakhtar, the state-run news agency, published some photos and posted on Twitter that 90 houses were destroyed in Paktika.
Rescue efforts continue, and medical and food supplies are being transported to the affected areas. Salahuddin Ayubi from the Interior Ministry said that there is a possibility of more deaths because some villages are in remote mountain regions. It will take time to collect all details.

According to EMSC, tremors could be felt for over 310 miles (500 kilometers) by 119,000,000 people. The EMSC website has witness accounts that the tremors can be felt in Kabul or Islamabad.
Many people living in the affected areas are believed to be trapped beneath the ruins. According to local time, the shock struck Afghanistan at 2:44 a.m. on Wednesday.
